“Mom, you wish I were the Marae from your book, don’t you?”
Real Marae is the story of a 12-year-old girl named Marae, whose life is published online and in books. Her progressive parents wish to raise their daughter in a free-spirited environment through home-schooling rather than have her limited to any one place. Marae is the envy of all her friends. Thanks to her writer mother and photographer father, she enjoys a lot of freedom and travels frequently, without having to attend private cram schools after regular school. However, because her parents publish stories about her and run a blog, Marae constantly feels uncomfortable around them. She is therefore unable to reveal her innermost feelings. Marae knows, better than anyone else, that the images you encounter in books and online are not always real. Having been home-schooled and changing schools frequently because of her parents, Marae has never had a proper chance to make friends. Therefore, at her new school, she really appreciates her precious friendship with Daeun and Gyeol. The closer she gets to them, the more troubled she becomes. Then she finally makes up her mind to introduce her true self to Daeun and Gyeol! Yet, when she invites them to her house, things start to go seriously wrong. As she finds herself in danger of losing her best friends, another shocking event awaits.
