It’s always sad to see someone leave.
It might be the saddest thing in the world.
To be better at mourning, and then to continue living as best as
you can, might be the task humans are left with forever.
Union2 is one of the seventeen “Union” robots in the July International Airport. Union2 has a special friend and colleague called Timmy, an explosive detection dog. All Unions look the same, but Timmy never fails to identify Union2 among them. When Timmy says, “If humans give you a name, it means they want to recognize you”, Union2 begins to question its own being. Meanwhile, meetings with Jane Lee, a film director off to Chakrama Island, and Andao, the airport custodian, allow Union2 to imagine the world outside of the airport and wonder about the mysterious Chakrama Island. Embarking on the Chakrama Project, an endeavor to collect as much data as possible to reunite with Jane Lee, Union2 fantasizes about the ideal residents of the island and strives to understand the minds of humans who fetch him.
